By Walter Semkiw, MD
In January 2009, I had the good fortune to spend time with Yehuda Berg. Yehuda is one of the directors of the Kabbalah Centre, along with his brother, Michael, and their mother, Karen. Yehuda’s father, Rav Philip Berg, along with Rav Yehuda Brandwein, co-founded the Kabbalah Centre in 1965, which has become an international organization with over 50 branches worldwide and major centers in New York, Toronto, London and Los Angeles. The Kabbalah Centres welcome individuals from any religious denomination.
The Kabbalah Centre has received publicity due to the involvement of several celebrities, such as Madonna, in the Centre’s activities. Others include Ashton Kutcher, who gave such a stirring performance in the movie The Guardian, and his wife, Demi Moore, who stared in one of my favorite movies, Ghost.
After meeting Yehuda, I read several of his books and was happy to find that many of the Kabbalah Centre’s teachings are consistent with what has been revealed through scientific reincarnation research, as well as wisdom compiled by those who collaborate through IISIS, the Institute for the Integration of Science, Intuition and Spirit. IISIS is dedicated to research that demonstrates objective evidence of reincarnation and to creating a science of spirituality.

What is Kabbalah? In his books, Yehuda explains that the Kabbalah is a system of wisdom preserved by Jewish scholars over a period of 4000 years. Kabbalah was first maintained as an oral tradition, and then written down in a series of books called the Zohar, which means “Book of Splendor.” Rav Shimon bar Yohai is credited with writing the Zohar 2000 years ago. “Rav” is a title given to a rabbi of great scholarship. In his books, Yehuda reveals how the Zohar explains many mysteries of life, some of which modern day physicists are now confirming.
Rav Shimon Bar Yohai Yehuda’s father, Rav Philip Berg, and his mother, Karen Berg, have demonstrated great courage and perseverance in bringing the wisdom of the Kabbalah to the mainstream. In the past, Kabbalah traditionally was only taught to male Jewish scholars. Rav Berg, with the support of his family, has dedicated his life to bringing the wisdom of the Kabbalah to everyman and everywoman. In his work, Rav Berg is completing a mission started by Kabbalist Rabbi Avraham Azulai (1570-1643), who first attempted to lift the ban against the common person studying Kabbalah. For their efforts, I laud Rav Philip Berg, as well as his family.
I would like to share with you some of our common points of view, which I believe in time will become universal wisdom, which all religious denominations will eventually have to incorporate into their philosophies.
The Reality of Reincarnation and Karma
Reincarnation is not a question of faith or doctrine, but of logic and reason...the Bible is its Fountainhead. (The Wheels of a Soul, Philip Berg, p. 29)
The Kabbalah Centre teaches that reincarnation is real. As noted, IISIS is dedicated to reincarnation research. In the last ten years, multiple independently researched cases have provided objective evidence of reincarnation, including the findings that people have the same facial features, personality traits, passions and talents from one incarnation to another.
Some of the most important research has been done by the late Ian Stevenson, MD, of the University of Virginia. Over a period of forty years, Dr. Stevenson studied children around the world, of nearly every religious denomination, who spontaneously remembered past lives that could be historically and factually validated. Stevenson accumulated nearly 3000 of such cases, many of which have been published by the University of Virginia Press.

The very important Stevenson cases of Suzanne Ghanem and Daniel Jurdi demonstrate that physical appearance remains consistent from one incarnation to another. These cases also demonstrate that we can reincarnate very quickly, even less than a year after death. This observation implies that all the famous personalities of history have been reincarnating all along. Until now, we didn’t have a way to identify them.
Other independently researched reincarnation cases which show that appearance, personality traits and talents remain consistent include those of police captain Robert Snow, fire chief Jeff Keene, neurosurgeon Norm Shealy, Fulbright Scholarship Director Wayne Peterson and artist Peter Teekamp.
One of the very most important independently researched reincarnation cases involves Barbro Karlen, who, since childhood has had vivid memories of being Holocaust victim Anne Frank. Barbro was a writing prodigy, like Anne, had phobias related to the Frank lifetime and she has the same facial features as Anne.

Not only is Barbro’s case extremely compelling, it also demonstrates that we can change religion, nationality and ethnic affiliation from one incarnation to another. Anne was persecuted as a Jew and died in a concentration camp in 1945. Barbro was born in 1954 into a Christian family in Sweden, nine years after Anne died. As discussed below, the Frank/Karlen case can help transform society and create a more peaceful world.
Barbro has written a book about her past lifetime as Anne, entitled, And the Wolves Howled. Her story, as well many other cases described on this page, can be found in my book, Born Again.
As noted, one very major principle that the Kabbalah Centre teaches is that the human soul evolves through reincarnation, which is now supported by objective evidence. A corollary to the existence of reincarnation it the principle of karma, that we incarnate to balance out, atone for and learn from actions committed in past lives. Our work at IISIS supports the idea of karma, with the related concept that we all have a life plan--a destiny, which brings us in contact with people we have karma to work out with. This karma may be positive or negative.
An example of destiny is when prior to birth, we make a marriage agreement with someone we have known in past lives. When we meet that person for the first time in our current incarnation, we can have instant affinity with them. Our soul recognizes the soul that we have made a marriage contract with. In this way, reincarnation can explain the phenomenon of “love at first sight.”
Consider the following quotes from books by Yehuda Berg, which relate to the concepts of reincarnation, karma and destiny:
“In fact, the ancient Zohar reveals a startling truth—children actually choose their parents before the moment of conception occurs. A child’s soul selects that appropriate family in which to be born.” (God Does Not Create Miracles, You Do, Yehuda Berg, p. 100)
“That particular pain, along with the chaos you are experiencing right now, is the exact same pain that you caused someone in a past lifetime.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 206)
“Guess what? Every one of us faces the consequences of our negative actions, large and small, at some point in the future. You can bet on it. It could take months. Years. Decades. Even a few lifetimes, according to the ancient Kabbalists.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 144)
Yehuda makes the astute observation that we are not conscious of karma that we incur in our contemporary incarnations as time delays the consequences of our actions. Life is designed in this manner to give us free will to choose various actions. Yehuda uses the analogy that if one is hit over the head with a baseball bat each time we choose a hurtful or negative action, then we wouldn’t choose harmful actions at all. Regarding karma and the way that time can hide the consequences of our actions, Yehuda writes:
“Everything can be traced to some seed planted in our past. Time just makes us forget the original causative action…Time creates the illusion of chaos when, in fact, there is a concealed order.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 137)
“Time is the veil between cause and effect.” (Angel Intelligence, Yehuda Berg, p.
47)
“This creates the fantastic illusion that life lacks true justice and that goodness doesn’t pay.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 143)
The entire process of incarnation into physical existence is to allow us to have free will to choose our actions, which allows us to subsequently observe who we really are. Once we observe who we are, such as during past life reviews that occur between incarnations, we can work to correct and perfect ourselves. In the system of Kabbalah, the process of choosing not to act wrongly is called “resistance” and the process of correcting our behavior is termed “Tikkun.”
Angels and Spiritual Beings Work with Us from the Spiritual Realms
In his book, Angel Intelligence, Yehuda writes that angels are all about us, from those who help orchestrate processes in the natural world, to guardian angels--intelligent beings in the spirit world who guide us through life and who orchestrate synchronistic events, including miracles small and large. Yehuda writes, in explaining the purpose of angels:
“They act as a wiring system to help us link up to the Creator and to the non-physical universe. Angels are our bridge to the Creator.” (Angel Intelligence, Yehuda Berg, p. 21)
“Your Guardian Angel escorted your soul into this world at birth and will leave you when you die. This angel travels alongside you throughout the journey of your life. He creates tests to help you elevate. He pokes you if you’re off the path. He’s your teacher, friend, and gadfly—your spiritual partner in this life.” (Angel Intelligence, Yehuda Berg, p. 61)
“Angels merely help us manifest what we have earned.” (Angel Intelligence, Yehuda Berg, p. 14)
“Kabbalah tells us that angels exist in our midst. The crazy opportunity that suddenly falls into our lap, the disturbance that shakes us up, the inspiration to create a painting or write a song;...these are all angels clothed in the elements of this world. (Angel Intelligence, Yehuda Berg, p. 35)
“When the angels support us, when the connection to Light is made, everything that we need starts to show up in our lives as if by magic, just at the precise moment that we need it.” (Angel Intelligence, Yehuda Berg, p. 131)
“Your efforts, your work, your physical exertion, brings upon miracles in your physical world.” (God Does Not Create Miracles, You Do, Yehuda Berg, p. 21)
I can share a small miracle which happened to me that I am certain occurred through the intervention by a spiritual being. I had been doing reincarnation research since the end of 1995 and had identified a cohort reincarnated from the time of the American Revolution which involves Bill Clinton, Al Gore, George W. Bush, all of whom were involved in the 2000 presidential election. I had paired images of Clinton, Gore and Bush and others with their past life personas, showing how their facial features remained consistent from one incarnation to another. These cases can be found in my book, Return of the Revolutionaries.

In the fall of 2000, a friend telephoned me and said she had the intuition that I should attend the Global Awakening 2000 conference in Palm Springs, October 27-29. I received this call only five days before the conference was to begin. I was reluctant to attend as the plane fare would be expensive and the only speaker that I knew of was John Hagelin, PhD, who was running for President of the United States under the Natural Law Party and who was one of my reincarnation cases. I had identified Hagelin as an early leader of the American Revolution named James Otis, who happened to be a proponent of the philosophy called, “Natural Law.”
I decided to attend the conference primarily to meet Dr. Hagelin and was very disappointed when my plane was delayed that Friday and I missed Hagelin’s appearance on Friday evening. Saturday morning, I questioned, “Why am I here?”
I did attend the conference and learned for the first time that the Master of Ceremonies, Michael Beckwith, was going to meet with President Bill Clinton at the White House on the Monday following the conference. I found that interesting, as I had my reincarnation graphics involving Clinton, Gore, Bush and other politicians with me. I had a nice dinner on Saturday with some Religious Scientists, who explained that Reverend Beckwith was the leader of the Agape International Spiritual Center.

Saturday evening, Reverend Beckwith led the program, which included the Agape International Choir, led by Beckwith’s then fiancé (now wife), Ricki Byars. At the end of the program, I started walking back to my room at the Palm Springs resort. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I experienced hunger pangs like I had never experience in my entire life. I felt that if I didn’t get something to eat quickly, I would die. This didn’t make any sense, as I had a full meal for dinner and this sort of thing never happened to me before. I thought it was very, very strange.
To find some food, I quickly ran to the restaurant at the resort and was told that all the kitchens had been closed for the night. I then ran down the long driveway of the resort and crossed the intersection, where a Bakers Square restaurant stood. I sat down and ordered a meal.
Just then, two Agape congregation members walked in, saw me and asked if I was the person with the reincarnation graphics. I said that I was and they asked if they could see the images. As I was showing them my notebook filled with reincarnated politicians from the American Revolution, Reverend Beckwith and Ricki Byers walked into the restaurant and tried to find a quiet spot where they could relax after being on stage for several hours. My Agape fans intercepted Beckwith and Byers and said, “Reverend, you must see these pictures.”

Reverend Beckwith gazed down as I flipped through past life portraits of Clinton, Gore, Bush and others and he murmured, “Lookie, lookie.” I then said to Reverend Beckwith, “I understand you will be meeting with Clinton in the White House.” He replied, “Yes, on Monday.”
I asked if he would take my reincarnation graphics to President Clinton, which Reverend Beckwith agreed to do. It was not until the next day, on Sunday, that I realized that Reverend Beckwith would be meeting with Clinton on October 30, which is John Adams’ birthday. My reincarnation research began by studying a reincarnation case involving Adams, which was included in the packet to Clinton, so this date had very special meaning for me. Later on, Reverend Beckwith confirmed that my packet was hand delivered to President Clinton on October 30, John Adams’ birthday.
Though I am a scientist by training and I want hypotheses proven to me, I knew internally that the sequence of events of my friend telling me to go the conference on short notice, my having extraordinary hunger pangs which I had never experienced before, my then going to the Bakers Square restaurant where Reverend Beckwith agreed to take my reincarnation graphics of Clinton to Clinton, on John Adams birthday, was beyond coincidence.
I truly believe that a guardian angel or other spiritual being induced the unusual hunger pangs in me to orchestrate the rendezvous with Reverend Beckwith. It is still mind boggling to me that someone of the stature of Reverend Beckwith, who recently has been featured on national programs such as Larry King Live, consented to serve as a messenger between myself and President Bill Clinton. For me, this was a small miracle.
Spiritual guidance through synchronistic events has also been observed in other reincarnation cases, including those of Robert Snow, Jeff Keene, Norm Shealy, Wayne Peterson and Peter Teekamp. These synchronistic events are summarized in the last chapter of my book, Return of the Revolutionaries, which features the cases of Nobel Laureate Kary Mullis and his wife, Nancy, who were husband and wife in the era of the American Revolution and reincarnated to find each other once again in contemporary times. In observing these synchronistic events, it appears that the spiritual world and our guardian angels are helping bring evidence of reincarnation to light.
I have had other, more tangible and direct experiences with a being in the spiritual world, an angel, of sorts, whose name is Ahtun Re. Let me explain. In doing reincarnation research, individuals would forward hypothesized past life matches for me to assess. Though I could determine whether facial features, personality traits and talents corresponded in these proposed cases, I could not know for sure whether these reincarnation matches were real or just represented coincidental similarities. I started working with several reputable psychics and clairvoyants to see if any had the ability to make accurate reincarnation matches.
This eventually led me to Kevin Ryerson, the trance medium who is featured in four of Shirley MacLaine’s books. Kevin channels a spirit being named Ahtun Re, who states that he last incarnated over 3000 years ago. I found that if I asked Ahtun Re for past life identities of individuals, where I gave no hypothesis, Ahtun Re could provide past lives that I could validate historically.
Some of the cases which demonstrate Ahtun Re’s ability include those of Ralph Nader, Carl Sagan and Neale Donald Walsch, author of the Conversations with God book series.
Many of the cases solved by Ahtun Re involve very obscure individuals, which required a great deal of historical research for me to even find. Given the obscure nature of the information, I knew that the information given by Ahtun Re was beyond the capacity of Kevin Ryerson to know. Given that Ahtun Re’s fund of knowledge was beyond the capacity of even a very bright human being and since Ahtun Re’s personality is very different from the personality of Kevin Ryerson, over time I came to the conclusion that Ahtun Re is indeed a spiritual being separate from Kevin Ryerson. Of interest, Kevin has no recollection of what Ahtun Re says during channeled sessions.
Having the opportunity to have detailed conversations with Ahtun Re, a being in the spiritual world, I have asked Ahtun Re about reincarnation, the nature of soul evolution and of the spiritual world. This information is compiled in Origin of the Soul and the Purpose of Reincarnation. I am listed as the author of this book, though it is really a collaborative work.
Through my work with Kevin Ryerson and Ahtun Re, an spirit being who has become a partner in reincarnation research, I fully concur with Yehuda in his assessment that there are angels all around us and that they can help orchestrate miracles in our lives.

Why can’t we communicate directly with most angels? Yehuda explains it is a matter of raising our consciousness to their level. In Angel Intelligence, he provides an exercise to help one connect with their Guardian Angel. Also, as we act in loving, not selfish ways, we attract positive angelic influences. He writes,
“Our perceptions reflect the state of our consciousness. As we grow spiritually and expand our Vessel, the spiritual world, our gleaming universe of Light reveals itself to us.” (Angel Intelligence, Yehuda Berg, p. 27)
“According to the Zohar, when you hurt someone, break a trust, or act cruelly, you pull down the blinds and attract destructive angels to you. But acts of sharing and loving kindness create an affinity with the positive aspects of energy, attracting positive angels and Light.” (Angel Intelligence, Yehuda Berg, p. 33)
Through IISIS, I have worked with a number of psychics, clairvoyants and mediums who do indeed have the gift to perceive the spiritual world, as described by Yehuda. One such person is Kevin Ryerson, who was mentioned above. Others, such as Michael Tamura, Echo Bodine, Judy Goodman, Hans Christian King and Felix Lee Lerma, have the ability to experience spiritual beings in the spiritual world.
Michael Tamura, author of You Are the Answer, relates that he travels to the spiritual world during his sleep and teaches students on the astral plane. The talents of these gifted individuals support Yehuda’s assertion that as we develop our consciousness, perception of the spiritual world and of angels can occur.
The Story of Creation and of Male and Female Souls
The Kabbalah teaches that creation of the universe occurred as God wanted to share his Light. The Big Bang followed, creating the physical universe. All souls were created around the time of the Big Bang.
In my discussions with Ahtun Re, the spirit guide channeled through Kevin Ryerson, Ahtun Re describes the same scenario of creation, which can be found in Origin of the Soul. Ahtun Re has stated that God created the universe because he wanted to share of himself. All souls, Ahtun Re has related, were created around the time of the Big Bang, as buds or fragments of God.
Regarding the creation of male and female souls, Yehuda writes:
“one infinite vessel broke into two distinct forces of spiritual energy: The male principle, called Adam, separated from the female principle, called Eve. These two segments then shattered into countless pieces, creating male and female souls.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 63)
Of interest, in Ian Stevenson’s research, he found that in 90 percent of cases, individuals reincarnated in the same gender. In my own series of reincarnation cases, published in Return of the Revolutionaries, Born Again and Origin of the Soul, I have also found that in 90 percent of cases, gender stays the same.
On the other hand, objective evidence of reincarnation demonstrates that souls can change gender from one incarnation to another, as shown in the independently researched cases involving Penney Piece, which are featured in Return of the Revolutionaries and Born Again. A case solved through Ahtun Re involving Oprah also demonstrates gender change.
It appears that though we can change gender as a learning experience, it does appear that most souls have a male or female predisposition, which is why in ninety percent of cases gender is observed to stay the same from lifetime to lifetime.
The premise that a soul has a male or female predisposition may also explain why transsexualism and gender identity disorders exist. If a male soul incarnates into a female body or if a female soul incarnates into male body, that soul may have difficulty adjusting to its new gender, including the physical body and the social roles expected of that gender. In this light, we can have more understanding and compassion for individuals who deal with gender issues.
The Spiritual World Consists of Levels
Kabbalah teaches that the spiritual world is made up of several levels or dimensions. Yehuda writes:
“First, you must know that reality is composed of ten dimensions, known as the Ten Sefirot or Ten Emanations. They are Keter, closest to God, to Malchut, which is our physical reality.” (The Way of the Kabbalist, Yehuda Berg, p. 28)
“The architecture of the spiritual world is vaster and more mysterious than we can possibly imagine.” (Angel Intelligence, Yehuda Berg, p. 99)
Kabbalah calls our physical reality Malchut, which Yehuda states is only 1 percent of total reality. Ninety nine percent of reality is made up of the spiritual realms. Life’s purpose is to reconnect with the 99% reality, our true reality, while still incarnate.
There are gifted, clairvoyant individuals such as Echo Bodine and Judy Goodman, who can travel to and experience the spiritual worlds. In Echo’s book, Echos of the Soul, she writes how God allowed her to travel to heaven, so that she could describe that world to people on the physical plane. Judy Goodman relates that she lives in both worlds, the physical world and the spiritual world, at the same time.
Echo and Judy have contributed their descriptions of levels of the spiritual world in Origin of the Soul. Though Echo and Judy have separate and independent experiences, their descriptions of the levels of the spiritual world, with only minor variations, are consistent.
Ahtun Re, the spirit being channeled through Kevin Ryerson, also describes levels of the spiritual world. Recall that Ahtun Re resides in the spiritual realms, as he has not incarnated for over 3000 years. He relates that his last incarnation was as an Egyptian high priest in the era of the pharaoh Akhenaton.
As described in Origin of the Soul, Ahtun Re states that he exists in the spiritual plane that is closest to the Godhead, which would be Keter in the system of Kabbalah. Ahtun Re has told me that when he merges with God, he loses all sense of individuality and is connected with all and everything. When he steps down his vibration or level of consciousness, he regains his sense of individuality and his identity as Ahtun Re. When I asked Ahtun Re what his existence is like in the spiritual word, he related that he is in a state of perpetual “lucid ecstasy.” I must relate that indeed, whenever I interact with Ahtun Re, he always seems to be in a very good mood.
The Purpose of Life is to Grow and Evolve
Why did we ever leave the spiritual world? If we truly are spiritual beings, why did we leave heaven? Yehuda writes:
“We had it all in the Endless World, except for one thing: the ability to earn, deserve, and be the cause of the fulfillment that the Light bestowed upon us. So, we rejected the Light in order to become like the Light—to become the creators of our own fulfillment.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 118)
“We came down from the mountain, so to speak, to enter the world of chaos, hardship, turmoil, and burden so we could confront the triggers that ignite reactions. Each trigger gives us the opportunity to transform our reactive behavior and become the cause of our fulfillment.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 145)
In my work Ahtun Re, five stages of human evolution have been identified and presented in Origin of the Soul. They are:
* Innocents-souls budded off from God, who are innocent but powerless. This stage precedes incarnation in the physical world. At this stage souls are in bliss, but they lack identity. Incarnation is required to create a solid identity or ego, which eventually, after many incarnations, will need to be negated to reunite with God.
* Orphans-souls in their initial series of incarnations, who are driven by survival and animal needs.
* Warrior/Statesman-souls that are now developed and accomplished, who are driven by societal needs. In this stage, humans become identified with their social structures, such as nationality, religion and ethnic affiliations. Violence in the name of nationalities and religions, such as the Crusades or the Holocaust, can be perpetrated by souls in this stage.
* Wanderer/Philosopher-seeks to establish a conscious connection to God through spiritual scholarship and practices, such as meditation. Rather than relating identity to country, religion, ethnic group, accomplishment or achievement, the individual longs to reunite with God. In this stage, the Kabbalistic principles of restriction and Tikkun catalyze spiritual transformation.
* Healer/Sage-These souls use wisdom attained through their incarnations to help create a more peaceful world and to help others reunite with God.
Rav Berg, Yehuda’s father, has described a similar set of stages marked by levels of desire. They are:
* Level One-based on animal lust and desire, eating, sleeping, having sex
* Level Two-based on fulfilling drives not in animal kingdom, such as honor, power, prestige, fame and dominion over others.
* Level Three-based on fulfilling intellectual yearnings for wisdom, knowledge and answers.

A basic purpose of Kabbalah, thus, is to help guide people from lower to higher stages of spiritual development. This process takes many lifetimes to complete, though with conscious effort, we can grow to the point where reincarnation is optional, sooner rather than later. Regarding ways that we can accelerate our development, Yehuda writes:
“Kabbalah teaches that each of us comes into this world with baggage from previous lifetimes. This baggage contains all the situations where we short circuited in our last lives, or in some point in this life. Each time we fail to resist our reactive behavior, we have to correct it at some point in the future. This concept of correction is called Tikkun.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 165)
“Reactive behavior is founded upon the human Desire to Receive…Reactive behavior includes greed, selfishness, self-indulgence, anger, envy, and the like.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg)
“Reactive behavior is any reaction we have to external situations. This behavior can include resentment, jealousy, pride, low self-esteem, vindictiveness, and good old-fashioned hatred.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 95)
“When someone wrongs you and you react, you lose.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 151)
“Our consciousness is built on reactive, impulsive, instinctive desires. Rising above this consciousness constitutes genuine spiritual transformation.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 95)
“And the purpose of life is to resist selfishness and ego and unleash the Godly nature in our soul—the Desire to Share.” (The Way of the Kabbalist, Yehuda Berg, p. 196)
“Kabbalah teaches the way to bring away the curtain and bring light into our lives.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 82)
“Each time we react, we disconnect from the 99 percent.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 147)
Yehuda has a very practical understanding of the concept of Satan. He writes:
“Satan is not some demon out in the world. Satan is an adversarial force of consciousness that exists inside our heads. That’s right; Satan is not some demon out in the world. He is a force of consciousness dwelling within our own minds….He wants us to receive unceasingly, whereas our job is to resist receiving and start sharing—unconditionally.” (The Way of the Kabbalist, Yehuda Berg, p. 12)
“Satan. His name is a code word for our ego. And our ego—the true Opponent—includes every form of reactive behavior.” (The Power of Kabbalah, Yehuda Berg, p. 123)
Recall that we discussed that the spiritual world consists of various levels. The level of consciousness that we achieve on earth corresponds to the level we attain in the spiritual realms. Indeed, the reason we incarnate is so that we can rise to the levels of the spiritual world which we desire to reside in. Regarding the ten dimensions of the Kabbalah, Yehuda notes:
“The law of attraction means we are attracted to the level our consciousness has attained.” (The Way of the Kabbalist, Yehuda Berg, p. 202-203)
Kabbalah teaches that everyone has a potential connection to higher spiritual realms, but that a blockage exists in most of us which is termed “Klippot.” By using the teachings of Kabbalah, by using restriction and taming our selfish desires, Klippot is removed and channels to God are cleared, allowing doors to the spiritual realms to open.
Lucid Ecstasy-True Happiness Comes from Connection with the Divine
“Immortality refers to a rapturous level of happiness that never leaves, never dies off.” (The Way of the Kabbalist, Yehuda Berg, p. 9)
“As we complete our individual correction (Tikkun), which drove us to inhabit this world in the first place, we are able to return to our original Godlike state.” (Angel Intelligence, Yehuda Berg, p. 19)
Our Godlike state is what we return to when we complete our cycle of incarnations on earth. When we develop to the point that we reside in the level next to the Godhead, we will be like Ahtun Re, who describes his existence as being in continuous “lucid ecstasy.”
Ritual
The teachings of the Kabbalah Centre include the use of rituals, such as wearing a red string on the left wrist. Though each ritual has its own meaning, in the end, rituals have one common purpose, which is to remind of us, on a daily basis, that the source of our existence is God and that a purpose of life is for us to reconnect to God.

Whereas Religion Separates Us, Truth is Universal
“More blood has been shed in the name of religion than for all other reasons combined.” (The Way of the Kabbalist, Yehuda Berg, p. 4)
In the middle stages of human evolution, our identity is based on the social structures that we are part of, our religion, country and race. Those who belong to a different religion, race or nationality can be seen as “the other.” Because they are different, we rationalize that it is acceptable to hurt or kill these others. This is what happened in the Crusades, with slavery, with the Holocaust, with 9/11, with the conflicts between Jews and Palestinians, between Sunnis and Shiites.
Reincarnation research shows that from one incarnation to another, we can change religion, nationality and ethic affiliation, as powerfully demonstrated in the Anne Frank/Barbro Karlen case.
A key goal of IISIS is to bring positive social change and greater peace to the world through objective evidence of reincarnation. The Kabbalah Centre also reaches out to people of all religious persuasions, as Kabbalah is presented as universal wisdom.
What the Kabbalah Centre has done for Judaism in integrating the reality of reincarnation and by presenting universal truths, is the path that all major religions must take in the future. Objective evidence of reincarnation will continue to emerge and grow. Just as religious authorities had to accept that the earth revolves around the sun, and not vice versa, all religions will eventually have to accept the reality of reincarnation.
This does not diminish the wisdom that each religion contains. Wisdom from diverse religions is complementary. Just as a cardiologist and neurologist work together to heal a patient, different religious doctrines bring specialized wisdom that can be used to better understand God and human existence.
I commend the Berg family for creating and growing the Kabbalah Centre and bringing the wisdom of Kabbalah to everyman and everywoman. IISIS recognizes your contributions and considers itself a sister organization in helping humanity evolve and in bringing greater peace our world.
Past Lifetimes for the Berg Family
As described above, I have worked with Kevin Ryerson since 2001 and have found that he channels a spirit guide named Ahtun Re who has demonstrated the ability to make accurate reincarnation matches. After meeting Yehuda, I was curious about past incarnations for him and his family.
Reincarnation research has revealed that we tend to repeat patterns from one incarnation to another. Passions that we have in one incarnation can continue in other lifetimes. As such, I wondered whether Rav Philip Berg might be the reincarnation of Rabbi Avraham Azulai (1570-1643), who was the one who first attempted to lift the ban against the common person from studying Kabbalah.
In essence, in helping create the Kabbalah Centre, Rav Philip Berg has made Rabbi Azulai’s dream a reality. In a session with Kevin, Ahtun Re confirmed or agreed that Rav Philip Berg is the reincarnation of Rabbi Avraham Azulai.
According to Ahtun Re, Karen Berg, Rav Philip Berg’s wife, was a student of Rabbi Azulai 450 years ago. Karen was male in that incarnation. Of interest, in her book, God Wears Lipstick, Karen states that in some ways, she feels more like a man than a woman. She relates that she did not have a natural aptitude to be a homemaker. Instead, her passion has been scholarship and she only agreed to marry Rav Berg if he promised to teach her Kabbalah.

Michael and Yehuda Berg, according to Ahtun Re, were cousins and students of Rabbi Azulai, though in those incarnations, they were women who were allowed to study Kabbalah.
I also asked Ahtun Re if Rabbi Shimon bar Yohai, who lived in the era of the destruction of the Second Temple of Jerusalem (70 CE) and who is considered the author of the Zohar, has reincarnated in contemporary times. Ahtun Re told me that he is incarnate at this time and that he lives is Safad, in Israel. He is still young, but will emerge as a peacemaker in that part of the world. Indeed, Ahtun Re reflected that the Kabbalah is a missing link that can unite Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Past Lifetimes for Madonna
Though I feel that the most important reincarnation cases are the independently researched ones, such as those of Suzanne Ghanem, Daniel Jurdi, Robert Snow, Jeff Keene, Norm Shealy, Wayne Peterson, Peter Teekamp. and Barbro Karlen, people are intrigued with actors, actresses and pop stars. To bring attention to reincarnation research, I post celebrity cases.
Regarding Madonna, who is a student of Kabbalah, Ahtun Re has indicated that she has had several past incarnations as a Jewish woman, even going back to a lifetime in Israel in the time of Jesus.
In our contemporary lifetimes, we are often drawn to cultural movements that we were involved with in the past. For example, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens converted to Islam in 1977 and for a period of time, he ended his Western pop singing career. He even changed his name to Yusuf Islam. According to Ahtun Re, this religious conversion stems from a past incarnation in which Cat Stevens was an Islamic poet.

Similarly, though she was born into a Catholic family in contemporary times, Madonna’s Jewish past lifetimes led her to become affiliated with the Kabbalah Centre. Madonna was also a strong woman in these past Jewish incarnations, but she was not famous, so it would be difficult to historically validate these incarnations. I can share one historically prominent past lifetime for Madonna. Through my work with Kevin Ryerson and Ahtun Re, Madonna has been identified as the reincarnation of the woman known to the world as Mata Hari, but whose real name was Margaretha Zelle.
Margaretha was born in 1917 in the Netherlands. She married a Dutch army officer and moved to Indonesia, where he was stationed. Though her marriage was an unhappy one and she eventually left her husband, Margaretha became a member of an Indonesian dance company and it was there that she created her stage name, “Mata Hari,” which means “eye of the day.”
Margaretha relocated to Paris and worked as an artist’s model and exotic dancer. She drew attention rapidly. Regarding Margaretha, an article on Wikipedia notes:
“Promiscuous, flirtatious, and openly flaunting her body with a mystique that captivated both her audiences and the public, Mata Hari was an overnight success from the debut of her act at the Musée Guimet on 13 March 1905.”
“She was photographed numerous times during this period, nude or nearly so.”
“She brought this carefree provocative style to the stage in her act, which garnered wide acclaim. The most celebrated segment of her act was her progressive shedding of clothing until she wore just a jeweled bra and some ornaments upon her arms and head.”
“the act was spectacularly successful because it elevated exotic dance to a more respectable status, and so broke new ground in a style of entertainment for which Paris was later to become world famous. Her style and her free-willed attitude made her a very popular woman, as did her eagerness to perform in exotic and revealing clothing. She posed for provocative photos and mingled in wealthy circles.”
“She had relationships with high-ranking military officers, politicians, and others in influential positions in many countries, including the German crown prince, who paid for her luxurious lifestyle.”

When World War I broke out, Margaretha’s friendships with powerful men on both sides of the conflict worked against her and she eventually was accused of espionage, though in contemporary times these charges have been contested as false. She was arrested in 1917 and stood up to her accusers. Based on what is suspected as false testimony given by others, she was convicted and executed by a French firing squad in 1917. She faced death with great courage. In 2017, the French army is scheduled to release court documents from the trial of Mati Hari, which may support her innocence.
There are obvious similarities between Madonna and Mata Hari. They include:
* Dance was an early love and led to a career in entertainment
* Use of stage names: Madonna uses her first name as a stage name, Margaretha Zelle used Mati Hari
* Use of sexuality in performances. Of interest, costumes that Madonna has worn on stage, including ornate bras, are almost identical to those that Mata Hari wore.
* Sexually uninhibited
* Relationships with influential men
* Courageous in standing up to authority

I hope that Madonna is open to the information provided above. I did have the opportunity to see Madonna perform in Oakland, California, in 2008. It was the first time that I saw Madonna perform in person. Though I very rarely go to concerts held in stadium settings, my attendance was prompted by a new friend, César García, who recently joined the International Board of IISIS. Cesar represents IISIS in Spanish speaking cultures.
César is an ardent fan of Madonna and through his urging, we obtained seats that were very expensive and very close to the stage. This occurred just a few weeks before I met Yehuda Berg, who Madonna has studied with. Who knows, perhaps a spirit guide orchestrated our attendance at Madonna’s concert, followed by my introduction to Yehuda.
A favorite song of mine happens to be Madonna’s Ray of Light. I hope that through research that demonstrates objective evidence of reincarnation, IISIS can help shed rays of light on human existence and soul evolution. I hope that the Kabbalah Centre will be a partner in this effort and again, I commend the Berg family for striving so hard to bring universal wisdom to everyman and everywoman through Kabbalah.
If one accepts the proposed reincarnation match between Rav Philip Berg and Rabbi Avraham Azulai, then the Bergs have been working to bring the wisdom of Kabbalah to light for over 400 years. Thank you, Rav Philip, Karen, Michael and Yehuda, for your persistent efforts.
