William Barnes is the author of Thomas Andrews,
Voyage into History. Mr. Barnes started having
spontaneous past life memories when he was
child. In the preface of his book, Barnes writes:
" At the age of four, I
drew a ship with four smokestacks and told
my parents, "This was my ship, but she died." I
insisted my mother call me "Tommie" and spoke
of two brothers, a sister, aunts and uncles,
none of whom my parents knew. There were
also relentless nightmares--a huge ship looming
above me, piercing screams, heated arguments,
the frigid water stabbing at my body, a peach-colored
mass of steel falling on me--and, again and
again, I would wake up crying... At age 25,
I moved to Washington, DC, where I sought
the help of a counselor who used hypnosis
as a means of relaxation. During the session,
I heard myself arguing about "the ship's
design." At the instant I came out of the
trance, I sat up and said "my name is Tommie
Andrews." It was the first time
I had heard the full name.
"At age 38, I got
married for the second time and, with
my new wife, Mary Ann, moved to Arizona.
Late one night, I woke Mary Ann as I
argued loudly in my sleep, calling out
names she didn't recognize, all the while
speaking with a pronounced accent. Subsequently,
the ongoing nightmares pulled me into
a deep depression. My professional and
personal life deteriorated, my self-esteem
evaporated , and I contemplated suicide
in the desert. After being ordered to
seek help, I began an odyssey of physical,
psychological and psychiatric evaluations.
In 1997, I was referred to Dr. Frank
Baranowski, a psychologist who had used
hypnotic age regression with great success
in helping people overcome phobias."
As Dr. Baranoski was about to start their
first regression session, William Barnes reflected,
"This will never work," I thought,
smiling inwardly. That was my last conscious
thought.
The regression therapy did work and it
helped William Barnes take ownership of his
life once again. The sessions can be reviewed
on an audio book entitled: A Past-Life Interview
with Titanic's Designer, by William Barnes and Frank Baranowski. On it, one can hear
Mr. Barnes speaking in Tommy Andrew's heavy
Irish accent as he describes the ordeal of
Titanic's sinking and relives his death on
the deck of the great ship.
His book, Thomas Andrews, Voyage into History,
is the story of Tommie Andrews, Titanic's
designer, remembered by William Barnes via
spontaneous memories and past life regressions.
Mr. Barnes' motivation for writing this book
is, in part, to clear Tommie's name of any
wrongdoing in the context of Titanic's sinking.
Mr. Barnes takes the tragedy and related
loss of life personally and strives to show
that Tommie did his best to implement design
features that could have prevented Titanic's
demise.
The case of William Barnes illustrates
how the Universe, or spiritual world, provides
meaningful symbols and sets up synchronistic
events to give us hints regarding our identity,
destiny and purposes. As an example, William
Barnes was born on April 14, 1953, the anniversary
date of the sinking of the Titanic. Barnes was born on the date the Titanic sank, 41
years after the tragedy occurred. Interestingly,
Titanic's hull number was 401, which reflects
the number 41. Further, on the day that Barnes was born, the first movie version of Titanic
was released. How do these symbolic and synchronistic
events occur? In regards to William Barnes'
birth on the anniversary of Titanic's sinking,
I believe that one's soul or Higher Self
can influence the date of birth, just as
one's death can be timed. The latter phenomenon
is reflected in the deaths of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson on July 4, 1826, the
50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Further, it seems the spiritual world can
influence the minds of people on our physical
plane. As an example, I think moviemakers
were influenced to make the movie Titanic
at a time when its release would coincide
with the birth William Barnes. Even the recent
remake of Titanic and retrieval of relics
from the ship, may have been timed by the
spirit world, to raise our consciousness
regarding the Titanic. This was done in preparation
for the story of William Barnes and his past
incarnation as Tommie Andrews, as well as
other Titanic past life cases which will
inevitably come to our awareness. In these
examples, we observe what is referred to,
by some, as events happening in "God's Time." The
Universe has a script for the unfolding of
significant events.
Let us look at a portrait of Tommie Andrews and a picture of William Barnes. As in the
case of Captain Robert Snow, William Barnes was not conscious of a resemblance in facial
features until images were compared side
by side.
Though Mr. Barnes is older than Tommie
Andrews in these images, a similarity in facial
architecture is observed. Look at the hairline,
square forehead, shape of the eyebrows and eyes,
the nose, the shape of the lower part of the
face and the chin. I had the pleasure of hearing
Mr. Barnes speak at a conference and during his
talk, he described many personality traits that
he shares with Andrews. Characteristics in common
include a strong work ethic and a gentlemanly
approach to women.
William Barnes' story
demonstrates a common feature of cases involving
prominent past life figures, such as Tommie
Andrews, designer of the Titanic. The common
trait is that knowledge of a prominent past
lifetime is not used in an egotistical way.
On the contrary, the past life information
is often traumatic and painful. In the Tommie
Andrews case, Mr. Barnes had to deal with
memories of a terrible tragedy and knowledge
that some could blame him for it. Mr. Barnes does not bask in glory related to the Titanic.
Rather, Mr. Barnes' book is about what really
happened on the Titanic, how the ship sank,
and how Tommie Andrews argued for design
features that could have saved lives. Similarly,
Jeffrey Keene, in learning about his past
lifetime as General John B. Gordon, had to
face the traumas and sadness of war. Nowhere
does Mr. Keene dwell on any positive aspects
of being a military leader in a past lifetime,
other than to express appreciation and respect
for his men.
The case of William
Barnes also illustrates a consistent pattern
found in the life of a past life explorer.
In the beginning, as a person becomes aware
of evidence of reincarnation, of a specific
past life identity, one starts to question
his or her own sanity. Later, others question
your sanity. The past life researcher then
becomes acutely concerned whether society
will accept the reincarnation information
offered. In the end, I believe that people
such as Snow, Keene and Barnes will be recognized
for their courage in coming forward. In time,
an understanding of the reality of reincarnation
and its mechanics will reinvent the world.
